“Beethoven 200 – Artistic Intelligence” places Beethoven’s musical tradition in the context of the technological possibilities of our time. On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven's death, the starting point for this extraordinary artistic and technological project are his 32 piano sonatas - a central part of his compositional work. In collaboration with Yamaha, modern technology will be used to investigate what characterizes Beethoven's musical language and how differently music can be interpreted.
With the help of artificial intelligence, playing style, interpretation and expression will be compared for the first time. The AI not only tries to recognize musical patterns, but also examines how musicians today work with a work, how interpretations are created and what makes musical expression individual and unique. Can artificial intelligence learn from this and enter into an artistic dialogue with musicians - up to and including direct interaction on stage? The 32 piano sonatas form the artistic and scientific framework for this: as a homage to Ludwig van Beethoven, as a reflection of different interpretations and as a starting point for the question of how tradition, human creativity and artificial intelligence can interact with each other in the future.
