Helmut Lachenmann

It is a great honor for us to welcome Helmut Lachenmann as Composer in Residence at Berliner Klavierfesttage. Lachenmann is one of the most important musical personalities of new music and has significantly influenced contemporary music with his consistent, radically expanded sound thinking. His works are characterized by a fundamental expansion of the concept of sound and demand a conscious, new listening.

The piano also plays a special role in his work: in several compositions Lachenmann explores its tonal possibilities in an innovative way. This close connection to the instrument also forms the starting point for a special concert as part of the 2027 edition of the Berliner Klavierfesttage, which is being created in close collaboration with Helmut Lachenmann and is exclusively dedicated to his piano music.
