CULTURE IS A BASIC RIGHT

A mission for cultural participation at the Berliner Klavierfesttagen
At Berliner Klavierfesttage we are convinced that classical music is one of humanity's greatest cultural treasures - a source of inspiration, beauty, emotional depth and spiritual enrichment. But for far too long, access to valuable cultural experiences has only been reserved for a small, privileged group. Our Music for All project was launched to change that. We want to open the world of classical music to everyone – regardless of background, age or financial possibilities.
Our vision is clear: culture belongs to everyone. Classical music must not remain hidden behind high ticket prices or exclusive circles. It should be an open space, a shared experience and an invitation to be touched and inspired. For this reason, Berliner Klavierfesttage has put accessibility at the heart of their work. To implement this idea, all students and seniors will receive tickets for every concert at the festival for just €7. This symbolic prize lowers financial hurdles and enables young people - the next generation of culturally interested people - and seniors - holders of knowledge and experience - to fully participate in our concerts.
We go one step further:
Selected senior citizens' facilities receive free tickets so that their residents can experience high-quality piano concerts at no cost - as moments of joy, stimulation and community. Children's homes also benefit from our initiative. In 2025, the Elisabethstift in Berlin received a generous number of free tickets so that children and young people in difficult life situations can experience the special atmosphere of a live concert. For many of them, such a visit is not only a rare cultural experience, but a moment of warmth, encouragement and wonder.
We also invite school classes all over Berlin to attend selected concerts free of charge. We would like to support teachers in their cultural education work and show students that classical music is nothing elitist, but lively, exciting and accessible to everyone. In total, we gave out over 500 free tickets to children, school groups and people in difficult life situations in 2025. Every single card represents inspiration, education and fair opportunities.
But our understanding of accessibility goes beyond the concert hall. In a connected world, digital access is essential. That's why all concerts and all master classes are broadcast free of charge on our official YouTube channel. This means that people all over the world - students, aspiring musicians, teachers, seniors and music lovers of all kinds - can take part in the festival. Our online offering is a freely accessible source of education and inspiration, open to everyone who wants to learn, grow or simply enjoy.
By sharing the festival online, we overcome geographical boundaries and make the power of music tangible for the widest possible audience. Whether someone can't travel, doesn't want to afford a ticket, or wants to study a performance again later - our digital archive is open to everyone.
With music for everyone, we want to build bridges, promote community and create a cultural landscape in which no one is excluded. The sound of the piano should not only be heard in large concert halls, but also in classrooms, living rooms, senior centers and youth clubs. Classical music is not an elitist discipline – it is a universal language and a gift that grows when shared.
Our mission is to widen access to culture, break down invisible barriers and ensure the power of music reaches as many people as possible. The Berliner Klavierfesttage stand for openness, generosity and the belief that music has the most impact when it is open to everyone. We invite everyone – not just as listeners, but as co-creators of an open, educated and culturally vibrant society. Because music is more than a concert: it connects, it teaches, and it creates shared experiences. Music for All is our promise that classical music will never be a privilege for the few, but rather an experience open to every heart and mind.
