Rules and regulations

Who can participate?

A selection of 10 young, highly talented pianists take part in the Berliner Klavierfesttage 2025, who will play in lessons and Masterclasses with our faculty, consisting of the most important pianists of our generation and play in the final concert in the Berlin Philharmonie.

Young, talented Pianists

Young, highly talented pianists from all over the world up to and including 32 years old.

Video Application

In order to apply to take part in the BiPM, each pianist must submit a video of their playing with their application. More information on this below.

Repertoire

Each pianist must present a repertoire. More information on this below.

Repertoire for the Festival

Each pianist must present at least two different pieces. One from each of the three following categories:

The Category 1 piece must not exceed a maximum duration of 5 minutes.

The Category 2 piece must last 7 – 12 minutes.

Additional pieces of any length can also be registered, but at least one piece for Category 1 and one for Category 2 are mandatory. The faculty and artistic director of the festival will decide which of these pieces will be played in the final concert in the Berlin Philharmonie according to programming consideration and quality of performances in the Masterclasses and lessons. 

Video Application

To apply to take part in BiPM 2025, sending a video of your own playing is required.

1. This video must show the current level of playing.

2. The video must have good sound and video quality so that the playing can be clearly listened to and seen.

3. The video must have a minimum length of 10 minutes and may not exceed 30 minutes. The recording can also be longer than 30 minutes, for example if it is a live recording of a recital.

4. At least two different pieces by two different composers must be played.

5. The pieces in the video can also be used for the repertoire for the BiPM.

6. The pieces of the video should preferably be recorded in one video and not a separate video for each piece. If the pieces are not played in one go and without interruption, it is possible to combine the various recordings of the different pieces into one video.

7. The pieces played in the video may not be cut or edited

8. The program must be played by heart.

Regulations

  1. The participants agree to the broadcast on YouTube, homepage, social media and possibly recordings on CD and DVD or broadcasts of their live performance.
  2. All Masterclasses and Concerts are open to the public. 
  3. If a participant has been selected to take part in the Berliner Klavierfesttage, he is obliged to take part in all events of the festival, as well as the Masterclasses of other participants, joint dinners and workshops. If this rule is broken, the festival reserves the right to exclude the participant from the final concert in the Philharmonie.
  4. By registering for the festival, each participant agrees to be part of the Berlin Masterclass Network.
  5. Each participant agrees that their name and photo will be published on flyers, brochures, the social media and the festival website and will be visible to the public, also as part of the Berlin Masterclass Network.
