culture belongs to everyone
A Mission of Cultural Inclusion at the Berliner Klavierfesttage
At the Berliner Klavierfesttage, we believe that classical music is one of humanity’s greatest treasures — a source of inspiration, beauty, emotional depth, and intellectual enrichment. Yet for far too long, access to meaningful cultural experiences has been limited to a small, privileged group. Our project Music for All was created to change that. We are committed to opening the world of classical music to everyone, regardless of background, age, or financial means.
Our vision is clear: culture belongs to everyone. Classical music should not be hidden behind high ticket prices or exclusive circles. It should be an open space, a shared experience, and an invitation to dream. With this mission in mind, the Berliner Klavierfesttage has placed accessibility at the core of its identity. To make this vision a reality, all students and seniors receive tickets to every concert of the festival for just €7. This symbolic price removes financial barriers and ensures that young people — the next generation of cultural thinkers — and seniors — custodians of memory, experience, and heritage — can take part fully in the festival’s artistic offerings.
We extend this commitment even further:
Selected senior homes receive free tickets, allowing their residents to enjoy world-class piano performances without any cost and offering moments of joy, stimulation, and community. Children’s homes also benefit from our initiative. In 2025, for example, the Elisabethstift in Berlin received a generous allocation of free tickets, ensuring that children and young people in challenging life situations could experience the magic of live classical music. For many of these children, attending a concert is not only a rare cultural experience — it is a moment of emotional warmth, encouragement, and discovery. Our outreach does not stop there. School classes across Berlin are likewise invited to attend selected concerts free of charge. We want to support teachers in providing meaningful cultural education and to give students the chance to encounter classical music not as something distant or elitist, but as something vibrant, exciting, and accessible. Through these combined efforts, we distributed more than 500 free tickets in 2025 to children, school groups, and individuals in need. Each of these tickets represents more than entry to a concert — it is an investment in inspiration, cultural education, and equal opportunity.
But accessibility for us goes far beyond the concert hall. In today’s world, digital access is essential. That is why all concerts and all masterclasses are also streamed for free on our official YouTube channel. This ensures that people around the world — students, aspiring musicians, teachers, seniors, and music lovers of every kind — can benefit from the artistry of the festival. Our online platform serves as a freely accessible educational resource, offering inspiration, knowledge, and insight to anyone eager to learn or simply to enjoy. By sharing the full festival experience online, we remove geographical limitations and allow the power of music to reach far beyond Berlin. Whether someone is unable to travel, cannot afford a ticket, or simply wishes to study a performance in detail, our digital archive is open to all — a living library of musical excellence.
Through Music for All, we aim to build bridges, foster community, and promote a cultural environment where no one is excluded. We want the sound of the piano to resonate not only in prestigious halls, but in classrooms, living rooms, senior residences, and youth centers everywhere. Classical music is not an elitist pursuit — it is a universal language, a source of strength, and a gift that grows when shared.
Our mission is to democratize access to culture, to dismantle the invisible barriers surrounding classical music, and to ensure that its transformative power touches as many lives as possible. The Berliner Klavierfesttage stands for openness, generosity, and the belief that music becomes truly great when it is accessible to all. We invite everyone to join us — not only as listeners, but as partners in shaping a more inclusive, educated, and culturally vibrant society. Because music is more than performance: it is a bridge, a teacher, and a shared human experience. Music for All is our promise that classical music will never be a privilege reserved for a few, but a celebration open to every heart, every mind, and every soul.
