Technology Forum – Beethoven 200
Where Music, Human Creativity & Artificial Intelligence Meet
Can artificial intelligence understand musical interpretation? What makes a pianist’s expression unique, and can technology reveal the subtle differences that transform written notes into living music?
As part of “Beethoven 200 – Artistic Intelligence,” the Berliner Klavierfesttage invite audiences to an extraordinary encounter between classical music, scientific research, and technological innovation.
In collaboration with Yamaha, the Technology Forum will present the first findings of our pioneering AI-based analysis of Beethoven’s piano sonatas. Drawing on recordings from the international academy, researchers will explore how musical interpretation develops, how artists shape tempo, dynamics, and expression, and what artificial intelligence can reveal about the individuality of human creativity.
Lectures by leading experts in artificial intelligence, musicology, and technology, followed by an interdisciplinary panel discussion, will explore the possibilities and limitations of this emerging relationship between music and science.
The forum culminates in an extraordinary live performance: a duet between a pianist and artificial intelligence. Rather than simply reproducing a predetermined part, the AI listens and responds to the pianist in real time, adapting to their tempo, dynamics, and musical expression. Human and machine become musical partners, entering into a dialogue that challenges our understanding of performance and creativity.
An invitation to discover not only what technology can learn from music, but what music might discover through technology.
The event is open to the public, and no ticket is required for admission.
